The nimpoof split from its ancestor. While most nimbuses inhabit the middle and lower reaches of the atmosphere, the nimpoof has adapted to the much harsher and higher expanses. Its tufty extensions are more organized, with many fractling "twigs" budding off each single "shaft" (the above image is a simplified version of their structure). These tufts increase the microbe's surface area for gliding and catching any particulates/gases that are present in the environment. Its membrane is a silvery blue to reflect harmful ultraviolet rays; colonies are called "silver linings". Individuals live for a 3-4 weeks.
