In a book I read called "science behind the X-Files" it talked about a life form that starts out life as an amoeba, then group together to become these slug like forms, then grow into plan-like stalks with a bud on top that produces spores like a fungus.(I wonder if there's a way to keep it in the slug form, so it might develop into something else).
