@ Angua
I think your talking about something much more advance then what I have in mind. By script I just mean a simple comma delimited file to store the status of my cladogram program (all the images, designs, etc...). So that, say in  seven months time, you can just upload your design back into the cladgrapher and add the new biota and stuff.
By script I meant your program thingy Wink
The only thing my script would do is upload pictures and resize them. A page to view them is extra, but easy to make. So it's really simple, actually.

Quote
Would it be possible (also in long term view) to put it on the Sagan 4 domain?
It would be very easy to incorporate because all it needs is the webspace and the images will be automatically linked  anyway.
Completely true, and I won't need to change anything once it's online, so it would be enough if someone with access to the FTP server uploads the scripts and maybe sets the permissions for the folder the files will be uploaded to.

@Hydro: What I'm talking about works basically the same as uploading images to the wiki. So I wouldn't need direct access to the website except for uploading the script.

@ Hydro
More than 1 ancestor? The Cladographer is just that a pictorial representation. There are no rules to how you can link things you just put the interlinking branches anyway you want them.

Well that's good to know.

Quote
@ Hydro
It would be cool if LadyM could host it on the sagan domain but all I really would need is 50x50 image versions available to hotlink to. This is just to avoid the snail pace browsing of it and all.

Regarding size: I am exploring how much it can do. Basically, there is a viewport which shows you part of the cladogram and you navigate to see different parts. All this while your designing your cladogram but when you actually make it into a webpage (automatically when you click an icon) you will see the full cladogram.

You might not even like it but any how its fun to do and I loose nothing and you get to see something that might just be useful (or not - laughs).

I think you better talk to LadyM directly via PM o she knows exactly what you are planing to do. I am all for it if it means a working cladogram.

If its separate from wiki then you need to talk directly to LadyM. However if it could be incorporated into wiki then i say go for it. However you may want to PM Masion since he is the wiki genius who helped make all the stuff for the current wiki templates.

@ Angua
I'll probably need your help if LadyM approves the project and I am able to get those
smaller images onto the Sagan domain. First I have to prove its all do-able with a
complete prototype (I know I can will just take time to do it).

btw Goodluck with the Sagan Movie proj!

@ Hydro
Thanks Hydro will speak to LadyM when have something complete & worth showing
(Got to atleast provide something more than just a proof of concept).

@Hydro: It's seperate. I'm make a prototype on my own webhost after I finish the small website I'm currently working on, then I'll PM LadyM.

@Vivus: How do you load the images into the program? Would be great if you could somehow automatically load all images from a certain (online) folder. Are you also going to add species names?

Partially working prototype

Quick start guide

Some URL's to try out. To save you guys having to fish for them in the wiki.
Make sure you avoid adding extra spaces when cutting & Pasting (haven't had time to add full validation)

@ Angua

Quote
How do you load the images into the program?
At the moment straight into the interface (I know, bad idea) rather than as preloaded in an image array.
Will eventually store image URLs in an array called "cladUniv" (i.e. Cladogram Universe) this will contain
the basic app. status to make the webpage and the script (to enable load in for updating the design for
later evolutions).

Quote
Would be great if you could somehow automatically load all images from a certain (online) folder
It would be yaba daba doo cool  Grin Having them sorted into Kingdom folders would be good too. The way my app would work is that you load just what you want, so if you need only 200 images why load 300 or 400 or ...? You could always load the extra as you need them (some later when new species evolve). To be honest you can only go so far with features using just javascript. With dynamic languages like php you would be able to create something far more nifty. Wish I had the resources and know for that Sad

Quote
Are you also going to add species names?
A neat little trick would be to take advantage of the way Sagan wiki has already standardized image links. The biota common name is always part of the image URL, so I could just extract out the superfluous pathway and image extension parts (using subString function blah, blah) leaving me with the common name. These could then be added to the image tag as its tooltips (title="", alt=""). This way you don't need to store the extra info since it will already be in the URL. The thing is if you want the scientific name then that will have to be added in (maybe as a function that retrieves user input and adds it to the image tooltip tags). Of course you could just create a hyperlink to the wiki so that in the webpage you just click on the biota to go to its wiki page for more info. saving the hassle of labeling it. This would be straightforward since the image URL is related to the wiki article anyway (most of them I think?) so again the info, for wiki page would be in the URL too. Isn't that neat? You could implement both, the common name and wiki article page from just 1 URL. You could also use this method to make the script smaller using just the name from the url and saving all common directory URL path parts in a variable (itsPath="http://wiki.mydigiview.com/images/" darn! just noticed they are stored in other subfolders, so your single folder access thingy would be great for implementing this).

I've noticed that with the large image sizes the app. is slower on line (so I definitely need smaller images) or could it just be that my non-premium limited web account is to blame (partly both probably).

Hey Angua feel free to borrow ideas and icons from my project if needed but please leave the Sagan IV affiliation banner intact.

Hi there people.

Still working on this as and when I get the time cos busy in RL.

Have recently managed to add a functional navigation panel.
Still a lot to do before this is completed. Here's a quick guide for using the navigation panel:-

Here's the link to the new test webpage, which includes the Gastroboskia images in the biota palette for you guys to experiment with.

http://generalarena.orgfree.com/cladographer_webtest_version7d.html

Let me have feedback if you can (this has only been done for Firefox). I'll eventually get there. Thanks all Smiley

The VUE cladogram has been retired since I am attempting to make a new Photoshop mega cladogam. I discovered some new features I did not know Photoshop could do which will make creating one a bit easier.

Thus this topic is being locked.
