I've seen a question on how to add a photo to your post. I'll try and make this as simple as I can, and you may ask questions or correct me as you see fit.

when writing a post to a thread, some tools may come handy to you.
most of them will be above the text window itself. those are the text tools, the advanced tools and the smilies. (those are not their official names, It's just how I perceive this)

The text tools:

divided into 5 sections, the text tools consist of
a. bold, italicize, underline, strikethrough
b. glow, shadow, marquee
c. preformated text, left align, centered, right align
d. horizontal rule
e. font size, font face, change color

*bold
sign:
action: makes the selected text bold
example: (not bold) (bold)

*italicize
sign:
action: makes the selected text italicize
example: (not italic) (italic)

Code:

[i]text[/i]

*underline
sign:
action: underlines the selected text
example: (not underlined) (underlined)

Code:

*strikethrough
sign:
action: the selected text is striked-out
example: (no strike) (strike)

*glow
sign:
action: selected text has a glow
example: (no glow) (glow)

Code:

[glow=red,2,300]text[/glow]

note: can change glow color and size by changing the parameters after the "glow=".

*shadow
sign:
action: selected text has a shadow
example: (no shadow) (with shadow) <- for some reason this does not work for me...

Code:

[shadow=red,left]text[/shadow]

note: can change glow color and direction of the shadow by changing the parameters after the "shadow=".

*marquee / move
sign:
action: selected text move from one side of the post to the other
example: (no move) (move)

*alignments

action: self explanatory, I think....

*horizontal rule
sign:
action: puts a line in the middle of the post
example:

*font size, font face, change color
sign: (note that the change color button isn't a button but a choice selector.
action: changes font aspects of the selected text

the advanced tools

a. insert flash/image/hyperlink/email/ftp link.
b. insert table, table row, or table column.
c. superscript, subscript, teletype.
d. insert code, insert quote
e. insert list

*insert flash
sign:
action: embeds a flash into the post
example: this feature is not available (I think)

Code:

note that you can change the size of the windowed flash by changing the two numbers, the left being the width of the flash window in pixels, the right being the height.

*insert image
sign:
action: inserts an image into the post
example:

*insert hyperlink
sign:
action: links the selected text to an internet address.
example:

clean email ->sagan4.com/forum/index.php

note that what will be written between the url tags will be visible in the post, but the address written inside the url tag, after the "=" sign, will not be visible.

*insert email
sign:
action: same as hyperlink, only with emails
example:
some guy's email
clean email ->notreallyanemail@hotmail.com

Code:

[email=notreallyanemail@hotmail.com]some guy's email[/email]
clean email ->[email]notreallyanemail@hotmail.com[/email]

note that what will be written between the email tags will be visible in the post, but the email address written inside the email tag, after the "=" sign, will not be visible.
