Ha, I was relatively close to that during the GRB. Okay, not THAT close, but as close as I've ever been to it. What did I do, 10 species in a week's time..? Oi yoi yoi.
Anyhow, I WOULD very certainly do this...if I ever could obtain a tablet to use. Drawing with a mouse does take an excruciatingly long time for me. Heck, some of my art takes over seven hours to complete. Moreso with older drawings before GIMP than newer things, but they're all at least a few hours of drawing time.

You seriously need a scanner Soma. Drawing with a mouse is hard. Coloring is not.

True, but in an attempt to be honest with myself, there seems to be little chance I'll ever be able to afford one. Heck, I've considered the idea for...uhh...9 years now or something? While I do get around $200 every other week to spend on non-groceries/rent/gas, I have sooooo many other things ahead of a scanner/tablet I need (not to mention no credit card whatsoever anymore), I don't know when I'll ever get to it. Like, I dunno...at least $3,000 worth of stuff ahead of a scanner/tablet right now. But hey, buy THEN maybe I'll actually have room for my computer desk to be set up to have a place for...well, for one of the other.

Wow they really have gone down since i got mine almost a decade ago. Mine is big a clunky where this looks sleek and flat. Looks like you can get the cheapest around $30 I bet if you found an older one like mine you could get an even cheaper one (if it still works). Cheap Scanners

Sweet. I'll look into that when I'm not just home to wake someone up to go to work with me for the rest of my work period.

No, it really isn't, not when you get used to it. I have never scanned a picture I have made for Sagan, ever.

Sure we do: I have never had that level of drawing skill (and can't afford the classes). See? I win! Well, sort of.

well i never took classes for art because whenever i do i dont like the type of art i learn and its always has to be a copy of a singal picture and my creativity dies when im in an art class.

Sure we do: I have never had that level of drawing skill (and can't afford the classes). See? I win! Well, sort of. I have taken classes but learned most of it own my own. Needless to say most of what i learned in classes were unlearning bad habits. Some i still have such as the cartoony look of my drawings. My life drawings are not very realistic because of my self teaching on comic books. needless to say with enough practice anyone can become a good artists. Also carry a pencil, eraser and notebook with you. When you are bored or having to wait in line or something take it out and sketch a little. Not only will your skills improve but your speed should as well. And even though you don't have a scanner yet the skills you learn from sketching should carry over when using a mouse. well i never took classes for art because whenever i do i dont like the type of art i learn and its always has to be a copy of a singal picture and my creativity dies when im in an art class.
I know what you mean. Art classes are a whole other art. Basiclly art homework can really kill the creative juices. I can only imagine what its like to draw for pay. Anywho I have seen your quality improve dacmat and i think you should keep it up. Not just for Sagan 4 drawings but sketch what you like when you have a moment of free time. Look to things you enjoy and see if you can replicate what they look like. For instance i love the style of J. Scott Campbell and learned most of my basic comic style drawings skills from him.

I've actually drawn near-continuously for 23 years or so now. Used to be about 50 drawings a day, but they've actually increased in time taken so it's significantly down from that now. Of course, I got arthritis (somehow) so drawing on paper can't go on for more than about 10 minutes - really sucks about that (almost failed high school because of my arthritis, actually). I need to find something that'll work with that, too. Of course I should also state that I don't have the skill everyone always talks about, where you can hold an image in your head, and visualize it; I get nothing. Don't know why, though. *shrug* Oh. I also have absolutely no sense of proportion, if it's something humanoid. You'll notice I never do humanoids. lol. My only real problem with mice (squeak squeak!) is that lines can't be tremendously defined no matter how slow I take the line - I generally (unless luck intervenes) draw a really horrid outline and then just refine it over a few hours pixel by pixel. Then if I'm on this here laptop or back in the old Sagan days I save an outline file once finished with that, and go over it with colors, then overlay the outline over the colors again and refine the lines again, for each and every color. On my own computer, I just use GIMP. Far easier for coloring, let me tell you. I can't remember what else I had to say and this all sounds far too much like complaining to me, so I'm hitting post. Take that, internet's inability to express emotion and forcing everything to sound cold and not the way it's intended to sound!

I've never had any art classes, everything I know I learned from the internet or books. Also, before I joined Sagan 4 I almost never drew anything. I did draw a lot on primary school though, and I could draw better than most children, so I guess I already had it in me for some part.

I am very sorry about the arthritis. But that aside some people have more natural talent than others. However one should never think they can't draw. We might not all become the level of Ramul but by gosh we can try. So think positive Soma and i hope your arthritis gets better (if that's even possible).

I have seen so much improvement with your drawings Kingacer. In the beginning i was unsure if i should have even let you on the team because of the drawing skills but now i rank your art up with the top artistic of Sagan 4. Please don't make me rate yo guys again. I am just saying that he has improved a lot since coming to Sagan 4. Which has made me a believer that people can improve over time and why I am not so tough on the art side when people join. I know that having people like Kingacer around can help those who are not that great at art yet. And then the whole project can improve by making crappy artists into great artists! As long as people are enjoying themselves when drawing then its only a matter of time until they improve. In fact much of my improvement over the years is not drawing alone but drawing with other people such as in middle school through high school i had a friend who introduced me to comic books and i went from crappy to "wow are you an artist"? Then later with the Naucean on gaming Steves having that community improved my style even more thanks to people like Huggs which made me want to draw better. Now with Sagan 4 the constant making of species keeps my skills "in shape" but i suspect in the future i will find even better artists to learn from and I will improve yet again. If you learn anything from Sagan 4 let it not be the horrible psudo-science we have but learn to improve your art through learning from others.
