And the shape is ridiculously specific and would be no more advantageous than its ancestor. This would never exist because of the shape and size. As it gets larger and more cells it would then be able to take on this shape.

You can't post unless you turn it off, it took me forever to figure out how. I'm only doing it temporarily though because I'm very cautious about this kind of stuff, and so I might stay away from Sagan 4 for a while. Is it possible to still do species, just through a different medium, like send it in through email? if so, I would much prefer to do that.

Also, anybody know a trustworthy free virus detection software for macs? I never really looked for one yet because I didn't think it mattered too much because I was told macs don't get viruses, and all most viruses do is slow down your computer speed, and that doesn't matter much to me seeing as my computer is quite fast. But recently it's been getting slower, and that's starting to worry me. Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, I did not expect this at all.

@Rhodix

I want you to make an urkamen and urshowad split. Since this is two species I would gladly do one for you to make it even. If that is not possible then an arbourundi split.

@Hydromancerx and Chumzar

I want Iron siever splits from both of you

Why is it that the trunk seems to have split in two in this and the emulsecho? otherwise it's fine

an asexual thing wouldn't become homogeneous(as there is no gene pool for the asexual), and a pond is a massive place to something that is hardly 30 microns, and if we move to line two; a bad mutation can only build up in a sexual thing and will only show up during inbreeding

Transformation only happens in PROkaryotes, you know the things that don't protect their genes

well, actually you are completely right about all of this

but i still think you get carried away
6  Sagan 4 / Submission Graveyard / Re: Flashline - Gen 143 on: June 22, 2010, 01:54:45 PM

Flashline (Crustamiconia colonisis)

Creator: MNIDJM
Ancestor: Flashlet
Habitat: Darwin Water Table, Chum Salt Lake, Chum Salt Marsh,
Size: Microscopic
Diet: Photosynthesis, Detritvore
Reproduction: Binary Fission

The flashline split from its ancestor and have improved their ability to interlock with other cells. They now form lines of cells and can stretch hundreds of cells long. the glow continuously at night, using minerals as fuel, but are bitter tasting and are left alone by all predators. They use organic compounds to produce a luciferin, which provides their glow, and are usually found on rocks or growing on dead organisms. They use photosynthesis to fuel their growth, but rely more on organic compounds. They can be found in the water table underneath the caves, where photosynthesis is less important.

Yes, you said minerals

the first sentence tells me you were lying about being in an advanced biology class

This shows us that you aren't in an american highschool, otherwise you would know that you can take whatever classes you want regardless of your grades. I know plenty of kids who used to be F students in general education, and now they are F students taking AP courses. Also, I don't see how his full sentence is stupid. When species are isolated there are less genes in the gene pool, thus there is less diversity, which the organisms do need to overcome.

@MNIDJM

Although it does need to get new DNA, i think its absolutely ridiculous that it would take free floating DNA. would you want to take some banana DNA and start to make banana enzymes, which your body then doesn't know what to do with? A lot of what it would pick up would cause cancer too.

@ Building Blocks

A luciferin is substrate that when paired with a luciferase releases electromagnetic radiation, so yes a luciferin does glow. Some of the stuff you are saying is obviously simply because you hate MNIDJM. If anybody else said organic molecules you would have been fine, you are just trying to nitpick everything. At least nitpick about points that need to be nitpicked about, like my comments below.

@MNIDJM

you cannot get fuel from minerals. Minerals are only necessary to diets because they are used in parts of larger molecules. Also, luciferin is an umbrella term for a bunch of chemicals, so either choose a specific one or attach an indefinite article to it. I also do not see how photosynthesis could fuel their glow, that makes no sense. Photosynthesis makes some ATP and some other stuff to make more ATP, so unless ATP or any other products of photosynthesis are used in the glowing (which they aren't because all the glowing is is a luciferin and a luciferase), then get rid of this part

lol Rhodix is gonna win Grin
Yep.

This was my thought track regarding entering the diorama contest:

A week ago: "Hmm... I made a good diorama, I might just win this... but I might as well wait until the last day to ensure that nobody like Rhodix enters with an unbeatable diorama..."

The last day: "Great, Rhodix didn't enter. Im gonna win this easily!"

A few hours after entering: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

So, as I was choosing an environment for my diorama I looked for one that hadn't been done before. I was shocked and appalled to find that the Rhodix Vents, the oldest extant biome (I think), has never been done. Surely it was one of the most deserving of a diorama! So, I took it upon myself to present to you...

*drumroll*

WEEK 16: RHODIX VENTS

Biome: Rhodix Vents
Period: Rabidian Period
Creator: Time Traveling T-Rex
Fauna: Marfos, Marocta, Xxeljet, Dark Swarmer, Ventrapper
Flora: Vent Pyamus
11  Sagan 4 / Submission Graveyard / Re: Hollowdome- Gen 143 on: June 18, 2010, 02:53:42 PM
i don't know what you mean by a hollow core of nutrients. thats like saying a hole of dirt. there is no dirt in a hole.

but I'm assuming you mean it is hollow, and can be filled with nutrients if necessary, in which case it is okay-ish. I don't think the core would be entirely hollow, as it would then be difficult to re-uptake the nutrients it stores in there. i would imagine that it has some roots dangling from the walls. I know this is for some plan to make a mini-ecosystem, and that is why i propose this solution, as it is either that or you make the storage area more like a lung or a fat deposit. I think in larger versions of this you would need it to become lung-like, but at its current size the roots would do fine, and then if you get some other flora in there before it gets too large then it would have a reason to stay un-lung like (assuming it benefits from the flora)

despite the awesomeness, the foot isn't horse like, it's goat like

changed to cloven hoof.
13  Sagan 4 / Submission Graveyard / Re: Pygmypodia - Gen 143 on: June 11, 2010, 12:02:18 AM
Eh, Bonobos do the same.

have they been observed sharpening rocks and making music? link please. also, if they do, do they actually do it on their own or do humans give them bananas when they do what the humans want?

Link

They do it on their own.

very interesting, i only saw a bit of it, ill be sure to watch the full thing later.

its also quite funny, because wikipedia describes the bonobos as being capable of "altruism, compassion, empathy, kindness, patience, and sensitivity", and i hardly consider that a sign of intelligence, seeing as most humans i know lack the abilities to hold such emotions  Tongue
14  Sagan 4 / Submission Graveyard / Re: Pygmypodia - Gen 143 on: June 10, 2010, 10:41:23 AM
im totally fine with this level of intelligence, but thats mostly because im fine with any level of intelligence in the sagan 4 project. I have never heard of bonobos this smart though, so im interested to find out
